The Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU) of the 8th Legislative Assembly convened its third sitting on Tuesday to rigorously examine the implementation of audit recommendations within state public sector undertakings. Held under the chairmanship of Jikke Tako, the meeting underscored the government’s commitment to financial accountability and operational transparency.
During the proceedings, the committee summoned senior representatives from the Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development & Trading Corporation Limited and the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Limited. The officials were required to provide oral testimonies and clarifications regarding specific discrepancies highlighted in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports. Specifically, the deliberations addressed Audit Para No. 5.3 from the 2015-16 report and Audit Para No. 5.3 from the 2016-17 report, respectively.
This sitting follows a recent series of spot visits conducted by the committee to assess the on-ground functioning of these entities. Beyond addressing past audit observations, the committee reviewed the current operational performance and general administrative compliance of the corporations to ensure they align with statutory requirements.
Key legislative figures and officials attended the session, including MLA Ealing Tallang, Legislative Assembly Secretary Tadar Meena, Additional Secretary Agaab Mossang, and Undersecretary Kheto Lowang. The committee emphasized that the timely resolution of CAG observations is essential for the fiscal health of the state’s public sector. The session concluded with a directive for the corporations to expedite the fulfillment of all outstanding audit recommendations.
