Bajaj General Insurance Limited has entered a niche but increasingly relevant segment of India’s health insurance market with the launch of Fetal Flourish, a dedicated fetal health insurance rider priced at ₹1,025. Announced in Pune on January 14, the product reflects a strategic response to rising maternal age and the growing clinical reliance on advanced in-utero interventions. Offered as a rider with the company’s flagship products, My Health Care Plan and Health Guard, Fetal Flourish is applicable for women aged 18 to 45 years and comes with a nine-month waiting period. It provides coverage of up to ₹2 lakh per maternity event for the first two maternity events under the base health indemnity policy.
The rider covers 16 specialised in-utero procedures, including amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, fetoscopic laser surgery for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, fetal reduction, intrauterine transfusion, surgeries for neural tube defects, fetal cystoscopic surgery, and procedures for congenital diaphragmatic hernia, among others. From an economic standpoint, the launch aligns with demographic shifts, as reports indicate that around 17% of women in India now give birth after the age of 35, increasing pregnancy-related complications and out-of-pocket medical costs.
Commenting on the launch, Dr. Tapan Singhel, MD and CEO, said the rider aims to ease financial pressure during medically complex pregnancies. By integrating insurance with modern fetal medicine, Bajaj General Insurance positions itself as an early mover in a specialised, high-growth segment of the maternal care ecosystem.
