On Sunday, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced that 63 candidates were elected unopposed in Arunachal Pradesh before the municipal and panchayat elections scheduled for December 15, with vote counting on December 20. A total of 440 candidates will contest for 186 zila parishad seats, 39 for 16 Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) wards, and 21 for eight Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) wards.

Notably, the ruling BJP won 58 zila parishad constituencies uncontested, with one seat going to the National People’s Party (NPP). Also, four BJP nominees were unopposed for the IMC. The SEC indicated that no nominations were received for 13 gaon panchayat constituencies, and 14 were rejected, while elections for Dumba Singpho GP constituency were canceled due to a candidate’s death. Approximately 831,648 voters are eligible to vote, using Electronic Voting Machines for municipal polls and ballot boxes for panchayat elections.
