Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi has called a meeting of senior party leaders on 15 July to finalize the strategy for the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament, which is anticipated to be tumultuous as the opposition is eager to address various issues such as the Election Commission’s special intensive revision in Bihar and Operation Sindoor.

According to sources, the Parliamentary strategy group meeting will include the Leaders of Opposition in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, along with the deputy leaders in both houses, as well as the chief whips and whips of the party.

Sonia Gandhi will preside over the meeting at her residence on 10 Janpath, which will also see the participation of several senior leaders who are part of the strategy group.

The government has declared that the Monsoon session of Parliament will commence on July 21 and extend until August 21, a week longer than initially scheduled, indicating a substantial legislative agenda.

Sources indicate that the Congress party is likely to raise concerns regarding the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar being conducted by the Election Commission in preparation for the assembly elections.

The party has allied with several opposition factions in contesting the SIR in the Supreme Court, with senior Congress leader and attorney Abhishek Singhvi representing the case.

The Congress aims to have the SIR annulled, claiming it is “unconstitutional” and designed to disenfranchise approximately two crore voters in the state.

Additionally, the Congress is expected to demand explanations from the government regarding what it describes as “lapses and losses” during Operation Sindoor, as well as the events that led to the cessation of hostilities following US President Donald Trump’s assertions of mediation in the India-Pakistan conflict to prevent a nuclear war.

The government has dismissed Trump’s assertions, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi informing him, during a phone conversation last month, that India has never accepted mediation and will not do so in the future.

The INDIA bloc parties have been insisting on a discussion regarding the Pah.
