The two-day Regional Convention of the State Commissions for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCRs) of the Northeastern states concluded with a collective commitment to strengthen child protection, education, care and overall well-being through sustained regional cooperation and coordinated action. Organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, the convention brought together chairpersons, members and officials from across the Northeast to discuss strategies for safeguarding children’s rights.
The deliberations centred on strengthening child rights protection through regional collaboration, knowledge sharing and the exchange of best practices. During the concluding technical session, representatives from the participating states highlighted innovative initiatives, successful intervention models and key challenges in their respective regions. They emphasised the need for stronger interstate coordination, institutional convergence and greater community participation to address emerging issues affecting children.
National Human Rights Commission Member Priyank Kanoongo praised the initiative of bringing all Northeastern states onto a common platform to deliberate on child welfare and protection. He said the recommendations emerging from the convention would contribute to improving child rights policies and strengthening institutional mechanisms across the region.
Kanoongo expressed confidence that the outcomes of the convention would serve as a benchmark for future child rights initiatives and inspire similar collaborative efforts across the country. He added that empowering children through stronger protection systems would help nurture responsible and capable citizens, contributing to the vision of a developed India by 2047. The convention concluded with participating states reaffirming their commitment to ensuring a safer, more inclusive and child-friendly environment across the Northeast.
