Dharamshala, located in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, took a major step toward digital tourism on Friday with the launch of its official website, VisitDharamshala.com. The portal was inaugurated by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama during a soft-launch ceremony at his residence in McLeodganj. The initiative aims to highlight the region’s scenic beauty, rich culture, and spiritual heritage to global visitors.
The project, led by the Dharamshala Hotel and Restaurant Association, is designed to be a one-stop digital platform where tourists can explore destinations, plan trips, and book verified accommodations. Association president Ashwani Bamba described the website as a comprehensive travel guide offering authentic information, weather updates, and booking facilities across Kangra—from the Dhauladhar ranges to Pong Dam Lake.
The Dalai Lama praised the effort as a milestone that would strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s global tourism presence. Bamba emphasized that the initiative promotes eco-friendly and responsible tourism, ensuring only verified hotels and service providers are listed. The platform, supported by the state government’s declaration of Kangra as a “tourism district,” aims to blend tradition with technology and establish Dharamshala as a model for sustainable Himalayan tourism.
