Achieving transparency and respect in life requires proper education, research mentality andadequate preparation for the job life. And this requires the mentality ofimmense hardwork, perseverance and intense competition. Recently, in an exclusive interview one such message was conveyed by the Deputy Director of JIS Group, Mr. Bidyut Mazumder.

He said, after the result declaration of the class 10th and 12thboard examinations, lakhs of students in the country are now standing at an important phase of their life. Some are preparing for higher education while some others are busy determining their career goals. Almost every student aims to acquire more knowledge, enhance skills and build a respectful life in future. For this reason only, in today’s worldproper planning and preparation is of utmost importance for establishment in higher education, research and different professional sectors.

Further he mentioned that, this academic year is especially important as according to the structure of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, students for the first time are experiencing this new education framework. The5+3+3+4 structure of the new education policy emphasizes on technology dependent education, ICT based education, skill based education and child-centered curriculum. In the post-COVID era, as the students are now acquainted with the online and digital platforms, this education policy will help them become more practical and career-oriented he feels.

He said, the most importantcharacteristic of the new education policy is the student-centered educational framework in which importance is given on thecurriculum implementation based on the student’s individualinterests, skills, learning speed and capabilities. As a result, students will be able to work on their strengths.

Another important part of the new education policy is Flexibility. According to Bidyut Mazumder, instead of the waylong conventional educational framework, this policy has taken the initiative toaddress the gap between different disciplines. As a result of this, it has dilated the strict boundaries of science, arts and commerce to some extent and hence the students will get an opportunity to explore multidisciplinary education based on their interests.

He has also highlighted the Multiple Entry and Exit System for which due to personal or financial problems even if the students need to take a break, their education career will not be destroyed completely. They will receive a certificate after completion of one year, diploma after two years and graduation after three or four years.

Appreciating the inclusiveness of NEP 2020 he said, this will play an important role in the educational field providing equal scope to women, minority, person with disabilities and people from economically weaker sections. Bringing higher education to everyone’s reach, it will help build a nation skilled and rich in human resource.

During the discussion he conveyed a special message for the students and guardians saying in most of the cases, students and guardians are more influenced by digital marketing, family pressure or tendency to imitate others rather than following their own interests and capabilities andends up in choosing the wrong subject or college. He feels that, students should follow their passion and forcing others decision on them is not right.

He clearly mentioned that as others are opting for medical and engineering, it is not necessary that I also need to follow the same career path. In the present era, disciplines like biotechnology, microbiology, genetics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, electronics, telecommunication, mechatronics, data science etc. are advancing very fast and so the demand of human resource in these sectors is also increasing.

Similarly, discussing several possibilities in the law sector he said, apart from the traditional court practice, there are now scopes for jobs in corporate law, cyber law, criminal law, start-up law etc.Students from any stream can now choose these sectors as their future career.

For the students of arts and humanities, there are huge scopes in corporate psychology, clinical psychology, content development, digital communication, storytelling and creative media. As a result of the expansion of information technology and internet the demand for skilled content creators has also increased.

In the context of choosing the right college, Bidyut Mazumder said decision should be taken not only on the basis of the institutional name but also considering factors like curriculum, research environment, laboratory, workshop, library, NSS, eco club activities, opportunity of language learning, placement and overall institutional environment. Alongwith these, factors like NAAC accreditation and NIRF ranking should also be checked.

He says, the three or four years of college life is the time for building the base of the student’s future. So instead of acting based on emotions, awareness, self-confidence and time-relevant planning will facilitate in making the right decisions for the success of the students.

At the end, Bidyut Mazumder said, “Degree is definitely important but a proper direction is way more important than degree. Selection of the right discipline, acquiring skills, keeping yourself updated and the courage to follow your passion is the key to your future success.”
