An intensive farm safety awareness campaign aimed at preventing accidents involving tractor-trailers and heavy agricultural machinery was recently organized at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Karsingsa, Papum Pare district, drawing participation from around forty-five progressive farmers. Conducted by the All India Coordinated Research Project on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture and Allied Sector under the Department of Agricultural Engineering at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology in Nirjuli, and sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in New Delhi, the initiative focused heavily on mitigating roadway collisions and operational hazards. During the program, Professor K. N. Dewangan underscored the critical importance of installing Slow-Moving Vehicle reflective emblems on the rear of tractor-trailers to significantly enhance visibility and alert oncoming motorists during low-light conditions or nighttime travel. Alongside an engaging audio-visual presentation addressing general farm safety protocols, the welfare and occupational safety of women engaged in farming, and the correct handling of agricultural equipment, organizers actively distributed and affixed reflective emblems onto local tractors. Farmers were strongly urged to adhere to fundamental safety practices, such as shutting down machinery engines entirely prior to performing cleaning or maintenance work, ensuring that all rotating or moving mechanical components are securely covered, and strictly avoiding the dangerous overloading of transport trailers. By combining practical equipment upgrades with expert educational guidance, the campaign successfully equipped regional agriculturalists with vital knowledge to foster a safer working environment across both fields and public thoroughfares.
