Arunachal Pradesh Fisheries Minister Gabriel D Wangsu has invited investors and entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in fisheries, aquaculture and allied sectors in the state, highlighting its strategic location, improving connectivity and supportive policy framework as key advantages for investment.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day Aquaex Northeast 2026 in Guwahati on Friday, Wangsu said Arunachal Pradesh is emerging as a promising destination for fisheries development, particularly in high-value cold-water trout farming. He noted that such initiatives are generating livelihood opportunities in remote and border areas while demonstrating strong economic potential.
The minister emphasised the need to strengthen cold-chain logistics, organised marketing systems, branding support and export linkages to help fish farmers achieve better returns. He also outlined the state’s plan to develop an integrated fisheries value chain covering hatcheries, fish seed production, feed manufacturing, processing units, cold storage, transportation and export-oriented enterprises.
Wangsu highlighted the expansion of hatchery infrastructure from nine to 16 units, aimed at boosting fish seed production and ensuring sustainable sectoral growth. He also pointed to emerging opportunities in reservoir fisheries, ornamental fisheries, recreational angling and eco-tourism.
The minister credited central schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and Atma Nirbhar Matsya Palan Yojana for driving sectoral progress. The event also showcased technical sessions on aquaculture innovation, fish health management and market expansion strategies.
