Arunachal Pradesh has banned the sale, distribution, and use of the popular Coldrif cough syrup after reports linked the medicine to the deaths of 14 children in Madhya Pradesh. The directive, issued by the state Drugs Control Administration on Wednesday, comes as a precautionary step following alerts from the Union Health Ministry and similar incidents reported in Rajasthan.
Coldrif, manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceutical, is now prohibited across Arunachal Pradesh, with officials instructing stockists and retailers not to sell, distribute, or retain any existing stock. Those who already possess the syrup are required to report immediately to local drug control authorities.
Dr. Komling Perme, Drugs Controller of Arunachal Pradesh, emphasized that the move was intended to safeguard children after the Director General of Health Services issued a cautionary advisory regarding the drug.
