Fresh floods, landslides and heavy rainfall have affected four more districts of Arunachal Pradesh, further worsening the state’s monsoon crisis. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Kamle, Pakke-Kessang, Kra Daadi and East Kameng reported new incidents of flooding and landslides over the past 24 hours. Although no fresh casualties were reported during the period, the overall impact of the disaster continues to rise.

The latest figures show that 1,02,917 people across 466 villages under 295 circles in all 26 districts of the state have been affected by the ongoing floods and landslides. So far, the disaster has claimed seven lives and left 29 people injured. Upper Siang remains the worst-hit district, followed by Siang, Kra Daadi, East Kameng and Namsai.

Heavy rains have caused significant damage to homes and public infrastructure. In Kamle, 17 kutcha houses were severely damaged, while Kra Daadi reported damage to both kutcha and pucca houses, roads, a bridge and two hostels. An 84-metre bridge over the Kumey River was also washed away, cutting off eight villages from the rest of the state.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak has urged the Centre to announce a special relief and rehabilitation package, stating that the scale of destruction has exceeded the state’s capacity to manage the crisis alone.
