The Indian government has unveiled a comprehensive policy framework to integrate tribal products into domestic and international markets, aiming to strengthen indigenous entrepreneurship and foster inclusive growth. Union Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goyal, addressing the Tribal Business Conclave 2025 alongside Union Tribal Affairs Minister Shri Jual Oram, emphasized the strategic transformation from “Van Dhan to Vyapar Dhan,” focusing on market access, trade visibility, and sustainable livelihoods for tribal communities.
Organized by DPIIT in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs during Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, commemorating Birsa Munda’s 150th birth anniversary, the conclave saw participation from over 250 tribal enterprises and 100 startups on the “Roots to Rise” pitching platform. Key initiatives included the launch of the Gramya Yuva Arth Niti (GYAN) Lab, the Tribal Affairs Grand Challenge for startups, and the distribution of Geographical Indication (GI) certificates recognizing unique products such as Apatani textiles, Lepcha crafts, and Bodo Aronai. These measures aim to strengthen value chains, improve export potential, and attract private investment exceeding Rs. 10 crore, generating over 1,500 direct jobs.
Tribal products including bamboo crafts, handwoven textiles, and traditional food items are witnessing growing traction. Local retailers and e-commerce platforms are increasingly offering these products, reflecting rising consumer awareness and demand for sustainable and culturally authentic goods.
