Arunachal Pradesh Governor K T Parnaik on Thursday extended his official support to the nationwide Green Diwali Campaign 2026, urging citizens throughout the state to celebrate the upcoming festival of lights in an environment-friendly, safe, and responsible manner. According to an official statement released by Lok Bhavan, Governor Parnaik praised the ongoing nationwide initiative—supported by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in partnership with WWF-India’s Programme Centre Resource Partner—which runs from October 20 to November 8. The Governor highlighted that the campaign directly complements the overarching spirit of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), an initiative aimed at encouraging individuals to adopt sustainable, eco-conscious habits through simple, everyday choices. Emphasizing the vital necessity of safeguarding public health alongside Arunachal Pradesh’s fragile natural ecosystem, Parnaik urged families and particularly the youth to embrace eco-friendly alternatives such as traditional earthen lamps, sharing homemade sweets, supporting local indigenous artisans, and organizing inclusive community-level festivities. He further warned against the excessive and unregulated use of chemical firecrackers, noting that intense air and noise pollution severely impacts vulnerable groups, including young children, senior citizens, individuals with chronic respiratory conditions, and local wildlife. By championing a greener Diwali, the Governor called upon the entire populace to unite in preserving environmental purity, fostering civic responsibility, and ensuring that traditional cultural celebrations align harmoniously with ecological conservation and community welfare across the state.
