Search and rescue operations resumed in Vadodara, Gujarat, for the fourth consecutive day to retrieve a missing man and remove vehicles and a collapsed bridge slab.
A tragedy in Gujarat has escalated to 20 after one body was recovered from the river and another injured person died. Efforts resumed on Saturday after a 40-year-old bridge collapsed near Gambhira village. The next stage will involve removing a slab and retrieving the missing person’s body, while the Gujarat Pollution Control Board will assist in extricating the tanker carrying sulphuric acid.
A bridge collapse in Uttar Pradesh has been attributed to the “crushing of pedestal and articulation joints,” according to a preliminary probe report. Rescuers are working in challenging conditions, including 3.5-meter-deep mud, soda ash release, and a sulphuric acid tanker. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has suspended four engineers.
