In a move to improve educational quality and address staffing shortages, a public referendum in Mebo Sub-Division, East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh, has supported the merger of schools with low enrolment. The meeting, held on Thursday at the Government Higher Secondary School in Mebo, saw stakeholders including MLA Oken Tayeng, Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, and local authorities backing the initiative, part of the state’s larger education reform strategy.

The consolidation plan, which is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, received broad approval, except for Primary School Darne, where the community requested exemption.

Several primary schools, including those in Tengabari and Seram Kangkong, will merge with nearby upper primary schools, aimed at optimizing resources and improving learning outcomes.
