IndiGo will start compensating passengers affected by the widespread flight cancellations earlier this month, beginning next week. The airline plans to issue travel vouchers worth ₹10,000 from December 26 to those stranded for several hours on December 3, 4, and 5. These vouchers are in addition to the government-mandated compensation of ₹5,000–₹10,000.
The move follows a high-level review chaired by Aviation Secretary Samir Sinha, with the government directing IndiGo to ensure timely payments to all eligible passengers. Passengers who booked directly through IndiGo’s website will receive vouchers first, as their data is readily available. IndiGo has also been instructed to collect details from travel agents and online travel agencies to ensure direct compensation. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will monitor the process, supported by the civil aviation ministry via the Air Seva portal.
While refunds for cancelled flights have begun, coordination gaps remain for OTA bookings. IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said external experts will investigate the disruptions, aiming to prevent similar operational failures in the future, with all routes fully restored since December 9.
