Sterlite EdIndia Foundation convened a national roundtable in Mumbai to discuss how data analytics and artificial intelligence can strengthen education governance and improve learning outcomes across India. The Data & AI for Education Governance Roundtable, held at the Sterlite Electric office in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), brought together senior officials from municipal corporations, district administrations, education departments and leading education foundations.

The discussion centred on building insight-driven systems to improve planning, monitoring and evaluation in education, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). The session was led by Sonakshi Agarwal, Managing Director, Sterlite EdIndia Foundation, and Antony Nellissery, Head, Sterlite EdIndia Foundation, who highlighted the importance of cohesive data ecosystems that enable timely and informed decision-making.

Government representatives including Sujata Khare (Education Officer, MCGM), Mohit Patil (Project Manager, Education, MBMC), Dr Pokdey Yomgam (Deputy Director of School Education, Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh), and Dr Keshab Sarmah (District Planning Officer, Namsai) shared how data and AI can enable targeted and equitable interventions in diverse education systems.

Leaders from education organisations such as Adhyayan Quality Education Foundation, Vipla Foundation, Pehlay Akshar and Dasra also emphasised the use of real-time data to monitor student learning outcomes, improve teacher deployment and strengthen programme implementation.

In Itanagar, education administrators say the growing focus on data-driven governance could support better planning in Arunachal Pradesh’s education sector. Officials noted that districts such as Namsai are already exploring data-based planning models, which could influence education administration across the Itanagar region by helping authorities track learning outcomes, attendance patterns and resource allocation more effectively.

Sterlite EdIndia Foundation works in teacher education, data analytics support and institutional strengthening of education systems. The foundation is a CSR initiative incubated by Sterlite Electric, Resonia and Serentica.
