Meje Taku has been elected president of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union following a closely watched and tense election that was marked by controversy, disruptions, and reports of violence. The results of the 27th general election were declared on Sunday after 25 rounds of counting. Taku secured 2,513 votes out of a total of 5,604 votes cast, defeating his nearest rival Debia Muj, who polled 1,552 votes. Another candidate, Byabang Hapo Dui, received 1,480 votes. Taku won the presidential race by a margin of 961 votes. In the contest for general secretary, Mato Bui emerged victorious with 2,644 votes. He defeated Nun Pertin, Tali Gongo, and Thomas Jerang by a margin of 1,270 votes.

For the post of vice-president (west), Lukken Kukken Gamlin won with 2,323 votes, defeating Bengia Anthony and Gachi Techi.Several other key positions were also filled. Reri Tajo Rai was elected co-convenor (women), while Zentle Mosu secured the finance secretary post with the highest winning margin of 1,337 votes. In the sports category, Tana Tagi Tara was elected games and sports secretary, and Kipa Arun won the assistant games and sports secretary position. The contest for assistant education secretary saw a close finish, with Tatkim Megu narrowly defeating Likha Gago.

Among other results, Neelam Gap was elected health and hygiene secretary, Ronny Borang became chief editor, and Kocho Nampe secured the post of chief auditor. Additionally, Likha Tebin was elected editor, while Techi Tannu took charge as secretary for women affairs. The election, however, was not without tension. Reports of disruptions and isolated incidents of violence during the polling and counting process added to the high-stakes nature of the contest. Despite this, officials completed the counting process and announced the results.
