A training programme on “Recent Scientific Technologies in Mithun Husbandry” was organised by the Longding Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) for mithun farmers at Nginu village in Longding district. The programme aimed to introduce modern techniques for improving mithun management, health monitoring and productivity.
A total of 78 mithun farmers from Nginu, Ngisa and neighbouring villages participated in the training. During the technical session, KVK course director Dr. Tilling Tayo delivered a detailed lecture on Salt and Mineral Licking Block (SMLB) technology, explaining its role in attracting free-ranging mithun to designated locations in forest areas. He highlighted that the technology can help farmers monitor animals more effectively, provide nutritional supplements and improve overall health management.
As part of the extension initiative, SMLB units will be installed in Nginu and Ngisa villages to demonstrate the technology under field conditions and encourage wider adoption among farmers.
Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmers’ Federation chairman Tadang Tamut also shared information on solar rechargeable tracking devices for monitoring free-ranging mithun. He stressed the importance of regular Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination and introduced farmers to humane slaughter practices using electrical stunning methods.
Village leaders and farmers’ representatives appreciated the KVK’s initiative, describing it as a significant step towards promoting scientific mithun husbandry and improving the livelihoods of local farming communities.
