The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has reinforced its commitment to secure digital transactions by issuing a nationwide consumer advisory aimed at promoting safer digital payment practices as online transactions continue to grow across India.

As part of the awareness initiative, NPCI shared five key guidelines for users to ensure safer payment experiences. The organisation advised customers to carefully verify the recipient’s name before making payments and use only trusted payment applications and official websites for financial transactions. It also urged users to keep confidential information such as UPI PINs, OTPs, and banking credentials private and avoid sharing them with anyone, including individuals claiming to represent banks, police authorities, or government offices.

NPCI further encouraged consumers to avoid making rushed payments under pressure and recommended keeping SMS and app-based payment alerts activated to monitor all transaction activity. In cases of suspicious activity or fraud attempts, users have been asked to report incidents through the national cybercrime helpline by dialing 1930 or via the Department of Telecommunications platform. The organisation also advised users to preserve screenshots and records of suspicious interactions to assist investigations.
