Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has congratulated taekwondo athlete Rupa Bayor for achieving a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian to secure the World Taekwondo (WT) World Ranking No. 5. Calling it a proud moment for both the state and the country, the Chief Minister said Bayor’s achievement goes beyond personal success and reflects the growing strength of Indian athletes on the global stage. He said her performance has brought recognition not only to Arunachal Pradesh but also to the nation as a whole. Khandu praised Bayor’s journey, highlighting her discipline, dedication and years of hard work that led to this achievement.

He said such milestones are not achieved overnight but are the result of continuous effort, focus and strong determination. “This is not just a personal milestone but a moment of pride for the entire country,” the Chief Minister said, adding that her success has set a new standard for athletes in taekwondo. He further said that Bayor’s achievement will encourage many young sportspersons, especially from the Northeast, to take up sports seriously and aim for international success. According to him, her rise in the global rankings shows that athletes from the region have the potential to compete with the best in the world when given the right support and opportunities.

The Chief Minister also reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting sports and supporting talented athletes. He said the government will continue to provide necessary assistance, infrastructure and encouragement to help sportspersons reach higher levels.
