In a significant step toward ensuring student safety and empowerment, the Tawang Police conducted a comprehensive awareness program at PM SHRI School, JNV Tawang. The session, held today, focused on educating students about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, cyber safety, and self-defense. The initiative aimed to equip young minds with essential knowledge about their rights, digital security, and practical self-defense techniques to protect themselves in various situations. The event was led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tawang Police Station, N. Angu, and her team, with the program formally inaugurated by the Principal of JNV Tawang, M. L. Meena. In his address, Principal Meena emphasized the importance of awareness programs in fostering a safe and secure environment for students. He highlighted the need for vigilance in the digital era and underscored the role of legal education in protecting children from exploitation.

Inspector N. Angu conducted an informative session on the POCSO Act, detailing legal safeguards and encouraging students to report any instances of abuse. She stressed the importance of staying vigilant and ensuring a safe environment for children, urging them to speak up against any form of misconduct. Following this, Sub-Inspector A. Mimi addressed the pressing concerns of cyber safety, warning students about the risks of online fraud, cyberbullying, and data privacy breaches. He advised them on responsible internet use and the dangers of social media misuse, emphasizing ways to safeguard personal information in the digital space. A highlight of the program was a live self-defense demonstration conducted by ASI Sangey Tsering, a black belt in Taekwondo. Students actively participated in learning basic self-defense moves, equipping themselves with practical techniques to respond to potential threats. The hands-on training session was met with enthusiasm, as students gained confidence in handling real-life safety challenges.

The awareness initiative was well received by students and faculty members, who expressed gratitude for the informative and practical approach taken by the Tawang Police. The session not only educated students about their rights and safety measures but also empowered them with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves in both physical and virtual environments. Authorities have assured that similar programs will continue in schools across the district to enhance awareness and preparedness among students.
