The All Arunachal Contractors’ Welfare Association (AACWA) has called upon the state government to relocate the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) regional office from Tezpur in Assam to Itanagar, citing significant administrative and logistical challenges encountered by contractors throughout Arunachal Pradesh.
In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday, the leading contractors’ organization stated that the existing arrangement compromises project oversight and delays essential processes such as bill clearances and documentation. Despite official notifications and tender documents indicating Itanagar as the designated office, MoRTH continues to function from Tezpur, it observed.
The more than 200-kilometre distance obstructs execution and leads to unnecessary travel, frequently hindered by bandhs or blockades in Assam,” the association remarked, adding that this disconnection is impeding projects like the Papunallah–Nirjuli road package due to inadequate on-site supervision.
AACWA also emphasized the prolonged nature of the issue, asserting that establishing the MoRTH office in the state capital would not only enhance administrative efficiency but also generate support job opportunities for local youth.
Requesting immediate intervention, the association urged the chief minister to ensure that the regional office operates from Itanagar, in accordance with the ministry’s jurisdiction and to alleviate the burden on the state’s contractor community.
