Three local residents stranded on a small mound in the middle of the Bichom River were rescued following a nearly seven-hour rescue operation at Subu village in the Thrizino subdivision of Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district.
According to sources, the three had entered the river to cast fishing nets. As the water level was low, they swam across to a small island-like mound in the middle of the river to fish. However, the river suddenly swelled due to rising water levels, cutting off their route back to the shore and leaving them stranded.
Villagers heard their cries for help at around 6 pm and immediately alerted the authorities. Personnel of the 59th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), stationed at Thrizino, along with local residents, rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations.
The strong river current, however, prevented the rescue team from reaching the stranded men immediately. Rescuers managed to deliver food and other essential supplies to the trio while awaiting additional assistance.
A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived from Bomdila at around 1 am. In a coordinated operation involving the NDRF, ITBP personnel and local villagers, the three men were successfully rescued at around 2:30 am without any reported injuries.
The timely joint operation ensured the safe rescue of all three residents despite challenging river conditions.
