The Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM), Block Mission Management Unit in Tawang recently organized a comprehensive one-day orientation program for Panchayati Raj Institution members focusing on the Village Prosperity Resilience Plan at the IIM Shillong Satellite Centre in Tawang. The event brought together key regional officials and local leaders, including Zilla Parishad Member Tawang Sonam Nordzin, Deputy Director of Rural Development and member secretary of the Tawang Panchayat Tenzin Jambey, Assistant Commissioner and District Planning Officer Nawang Thutan, District Horticulture Officer Koncho Gyatso, District Veterinary Officer Dr. Thupten Tashi, Child Development Project Officer Dondup Pema, ten Gram Panchayat Chairpersons, and Khandro Drowa Zangmo Cooperative Society Chairperson Nawang Chonzom. During the briefing, Thupten Chudup from ArSRLM Tawang detailed the mission’s extensive efforts in establishing and nurturing Self-Help Groups that empower rural women both socially and economically, helping them transform into financially independent Lakhpati Didis through sustained guidance and livelihood support. Elaborating on the Village Prosperity Resilience Plan, Chudup explained that it serves as a community-driven demand blueprint designed for seamless integration into the broader Gram Panchayat Development Plan, encompassing crucial components such as entitlement frameworks, livelihood strategies, public goods development, and social welfare programs. Addressing the assembly, Tenzin Jambey underscored the indispensable role played by local Panchayats in identifying and closing developmental deficiencies at the grassroots level, urging elected members to conduct thorough village mapping and actively engage Self-Help Group participants in crafting robust local development strategies. Jambey also encouraged participants to look beyond conventional infrastructure projects like concrete steps and retaining walls, advocating for increased investments in agriculture, horticulture, and allied economic sectors to generate sustainable growth for rural communities. Echoing these sentiments, Zilla Parishad Member Sonam Nordzin praised the workshop as an eye-opening initiative that deepens the understanding of how local governance bodies can collaborate with community networks to foster comprehensive rural prosperity.
