A car reportedly caught fire near the Secretariat area in Itanagar on Thursday while a 12-hour bandh called by the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) was underway across the Itanagar Capital Region.
The shutdown, which began at 5 am and is scheduled to continue until 5 pm, has been called in support of several education-related demands. These include the renovation and maintenance of 56 schools, as well as issues concerning Toru Engineering College and the Pake-Kessang Special Needs School.
According to reports, the vehicle caught fire near the Secretariat during the bandh period, drawing attention from commuters and local residents in the area. However, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Officials said there was no immediate confirmation of any injuries or casualties. It also remains unclear whether the incident was linked in any way to the ongoing bandh.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and ascertain the circumstances that led to the vehicle catching fire.
