Priests of the Khodhok-Cho region in West Kameng district were honoured on the occasion of Guru Purnima for their dedication towards preserving spiritual traditions, cultural heritage, and community values. The event, themed ‘Know Your Own People: Honouring the Spiritual Heritage and Community Service’, was organised by the All Khodhok-Cho Youth Welfare Association (AKCYWA) at the initiative of Vivekananda Kendra, Bomdila Karya Sthan.
The programme recognised priests from Mukuthing, Membachur, Gorbow, and Dekshi villages for their significant role in maintaining age-old spiritual practices and guiding the community through cultural and traditional knowledge.
Speaking at the event, Sange Norbu Thungon, Sanyojak of Vivekananda Kendra, Bomdila Karya Sthan, said gurus hold an important place in society by shaping character, preserving culture, and inspiring people towards selfless service and nation-building. He emphasised that respecting gurus, elders, and local spiritual leaders is essential for protecting cultural identity.
Dr. Lobsang Tashi Thungon, Yuva Pramukh of Vivekananda Kendra, Kameng Vibhag, encouraged youths to learn about their history, traditions, language, customs, and the wisdom of elders to strengthen their connection with their roots.
During an interaction session, community elders and youths discussed cultural preservation, leadership, and the responsibilities of the younger generation in carrying forward their heritage.
AKCYWA President Rinchin Tsewang Thongchi highlighted the vital role of priests as guardians of religious practices, indigenous knowledge, and community identity. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to preserving spiritual traditions and cultural values for future generations.
