Tai Tagak, a nominee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been elected unopposed to the lone seat in the Rajya Sabha from Arunachal Pradesh, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The declaration was made by Returning Officer-cum-Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Tadar Meena, after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations closed at 3 pm. Since only one candidate had filed nomination for the seat and no withdrawals were made within the stipulated time, Tagak was declared elected unopposed in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.

Following the declaration, the official certificate of election was handed over to the newly elected Member of Parliament at a ceremony held at the Nokmey Namati Hall in the Legislative Assembly Secretariat. The event was attended by Chief Electoral Officer-cum-Observer Pawan Kumar Sain, Joint CEO Liken Koyu, Assistant Returning Officer Longman Ronrang, along with senior leaders of the BJP.

After the ceremony, Tagak called on Speaker Tesam Pongte, who congratulated him on his unopposed election and extended best wishes for his tenure in the Upper House of Parliament.

The unopposed election highlights a smooth electoral process for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Arunachal Pradesh, following the completion of all statutory procedures within the prescribed timeline.
