The Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes will resume from August. At the same time, around 18,000 students will be given scooters under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award this year. However, the state government has announced that the scooter scheme will be discontinued from next year and the funds will be used to further expand the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes.

Presenting the budget for the 2026-27 financial year on Friday, Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah made this announcement. He stated that so far, 5,44,479 girl students have benefited through the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes. Financial assistance worth ₹374 crore has already been distributed under the scheme.

The Finance Minister also mentioned in the budget that around 5,30,718 students will avail the benefits of the scheme in the current financial year.

Under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award scooters will be given to around 18,000 meritorious students this time. But to bring more students under financial assistance, the government has decided to discontinue the scooter distribution programme from the next academic year.

Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah further said that the funds allocated for the scooter scheme will now be spent on making the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes stronger and more expansive. As a result, a larger number of eligible students will get the opportunity to receive government financial aid.

Meanwhile, the government also announced that the monthly financial assistance of ₹1,500 to 621 Udasin Bhakats associated with satra institutions will resume from August.

The state government is also continuing support in the agriculture sector. Under the Mukhyamantri Krishi Sa-Sajuli Scheme small and marginal farmers will continue to receive financial assistance of ₹11,000 per year. Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah mentioned in his budget speech that this assistance will be provided in line with the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
