The Upper Subansiri-Kamle District Boundary Affected People’s Forum has called on the Arunachal Pradesh government to bring a permanent resolution to the long-pending boundary issue between Upper Subansiri and Kamle districts, citing the provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2017. Addressing a press conference in Daporijo, forum chairman Dosh Dasi Tamin said the Act, which received the Governor’s assent on November 29, 2017 and was published in the official gazette on December 4 the same year, clearly defined the administrative areas that would form part of the newly created Kamle district. According to Tamin, the legislation included Gepen of Puchi-Geko and parts of the Sadar Circle comprising villages under the Raga Assembly constituency, including Ligu and Liruk. He said the Act clearly stated that these villages were carved out of Upper Subansiri district and incorporated into Kamle district. However, Tamin said confusion emerged following a notification issued by the commissioner on May 27, 2020, which stated that areas located west of the Sigin River in Daporijo would come under the jurisdiction of Kamle district for policing purposes under provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

He said the use of the Sigin River as a reference point led to widespread confusion among residents regarding the actual district boundary. According to him, the river passes through the heart of Daporijo town, which serves as the headquarters of Upper Subansiri district and houses several important government institutions. Tamin said the absence of a clearly demarcated and officially notified district boundary has resulted in disputes, administrative complications and misunderstandings among residents over the years. He added that repeated representations had been submitted to the government seeking clarification and resolution of the matter. He informed that the state government recently convened a meeting on May 25, 2026, under the chairmanship of Home Commissioner Nyali Ete to discuss the issue. The meeting was attended by officials from the General Administration Department, including Secretary Komkar Dulom, Inspector General of Police Tusar Taba and other government representatives. According to Tamin, developments that followed the meeting were encouraging for the affected residents. He welcomed a notification issued on May 27, 2026, which clarified that Daporijo town and its nine colonies would continue to remain under the jurisdiction of Upper Subansiri district.

The forum chairman also stressed the need for the government to ensure that whenever new districts are created in the future, their boundaries should be demarcated and officially notified simultaneously to avoid confusion and future disputes. He further pointed out that the lack of proper boundary maps continues to create uncertainty among the public. Tamin appealed to the authorities of both Upper Subansiri and Kamle districts to hold a joint meeting to address the remaining concerns and requested the participation of senior government officials to facilitate a lasting and mutually acceptable solution. The forum expressed hope that the state government would take the necessary steps to bring clarity to the boundary issue and safeguard the interests of people living in both districts. Meanwhile, the forum has also submitted a representation to the Secretary of the Statistics and Economics Department-cum-State Census Nodal Officer, demanding the immediate inclusion of nine colonies under Upper Subansiri district in the ongoing houselisting and housing census exercise.
