The Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Guwahati, concluded its 10-day celebration of the 11th Ayurveda Day 2026 on Wednesday with a public walkathon at Guwahati bringing together healthcare practitioners, youth and members of the local community to spread the message of preventive healthcare and healthy living.
Held under the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow,” the 10-day campaign featured a series of health camps, awareness programmes, educational lectures and community outreach activities aimed at taking the preventive principles of Ayurveda closer to the people.
The celebrations were organised in alignment with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, with a focus on encouraging individuals and communities to adopt healthier lifestyles and make preventive healthcare an integral part of everyday life.
As part of the campaign, CARI Guwahati conducted free health check-up camps at various locations across Assam, offering medical consultations, diagnostic screenings and free distribution of Ayurvedic medicines. The outreach programmes enabled members of the community to access healthcare services while creating greater awareness about the importance of early intervention and preventive health practices.
The 10-day programme also featured an expert seminar on Marma Chikitsa, conducted by Dr. Tikendrajit Sarma, Associate Professor, Government Ayurvedic College, Guwahati. The session provided an academic perspective on traditional Ayurvedic approaches to Marma points and their relevance in non-invasive pain management and holistic care.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. P. L. Bharati, Research Officer (In-charge), CARI Guwahati, emphasised the continued relevance of Ayurveda in modern healthcare. He further said that ayurveda is not merely a system of treatment; it is a science of life that places prevention, balance and sustainable living at the centre of health.
A series of awareness lectures at the OPD of the institute further highlighted the practical relevance of Ayurveda in contemporary life. Sessions focused on important Ayurvedic principles including Dinacharya (daily regimen), Ritucharya (seasonal regimen), appropriate Ahara (diet) and other lifestyle practices aimed at promoting health and preventing illness.
In addition to this CARI Guwahati also extended its preventive healthcare outreach to frontline personnel at the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), IOCL, Bongaigaon.
