Ghanakanta Gogoi, the prime accused in the high-profile Hotel Bilas Inn shooting case in Assam, has been arrested once again by Sivasagar Police in connection with a separate case registered in 2024.
According to reports, a team of Sivasagar Police formally took Gogoi into custody from Guwahati Central Jail on Tuesday. He is currently lodged in the jail in connection with the Hotel Bilas Inn shooting case, which remains under investigation.
Police sources said the latest arrest relates to an FIR registered at Sivasagar Police Station in 2024. Following necessary legal procedures, officers from Sivasagar Police reached Guwahati Central Jail and formally arrested Gogoi in connection with that case.
Gogoi is already facing legal proceedings over the Hotel Bilas Inn shooting incident, which claimed five lives and left another person injured. The case had drawn widespread attention across the state due to its severity and the number of casualties involved.
The fresh arrest adds another legal challenge for Gogoi, who remains in judicial custody while investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting at Hotel Bilas Inn.
Officials have not yet disclosed further details regarding the nature of the 2024 case linked to the latest arrest. However, police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and appropriate legal procedures are being followed.
The development comes as authorities continue their investigation into the Hotel Bilas Inn shooting case, one of the most significant criminal cases in Assam in recent years.
