Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has said that the Northeast has witnessed remarkable transformation over the last 12 years, driven by significant investments in connectivity, infrastructure and development projects that have improved economic opportunities and quality of life across the region. In a series of posts on social media platform X, Mein said the Northeast, which was once known for its geographical challenges and connectivity issues, has steadily evolved into an important centre of growth and development.According to him, sustained policy attention and infrastructure investments have helped reshape the development landscape of the region, creating new opportunities for businesses, tourism and local communities.

Highlighting key achievements, Mein pointed to the rapid expansion of transport and connectivity infrastructure, including more than 96 per cent railway electrification, the construction of eight greenfield airports, expansion of railway networks and the achievement of full household electrification in many areas. He said these initiatives have significantly improved access to remote locations and strengthened links between the Northeast and the rest of the country.“The Northeast has transformed from a region often associated with connectivity challenges into a vibrant hub of peace, opportunity, and economic progress,” Mein said. The deputy chief minister noted that Arunachal Pradesh has particularly benefited from major infrastructure projects that have improved road, rail and air connectivity. He said better transport networks have opened new avenues for tourism, trade, investment and employment.

Among the landmark projects, Mein highlighted the Sela Tunnel, which provides all-weather connectivity to Tawang. He said the tunnel has solved a long-standing problem faced by residents and travellers, as heavy snowfall frequently disrupted movement in the area.“A route once disrupted by heavy snowfall is now accessible throughout the year,” he said, adding that the project has enhanced mobility, strengthened strategic infrastructure and supported regional development.Mein also stressed that improved connectivity remains one of the most visible changes in the Northeast. “There was a time when connectivity remained one of the biggest challenges across much of the Northeast. Today, soaring bridges, expanding railway networks, and world-class infrastructure are bringing communities closer and creating new avenues for growth,” he said.He further stated that investments in roads, railways, waterways and welfare programmes have made development more inclusive and have contributed to greater economic activity across the region.“The region, once known for its remoteness and challenges, has today become a key hub of India’s development story,” Mein said, attributing the transformation to long-term development initiatives and consistent policy support over the past decade.
