Assam Police seized suspected narcotic substances worth around ₹13 crore and arrested one alleged drug trafficker during an anti-drug operation in Cachar district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
According to the Chief Minister, Cachar Police recovered 2.2 kg of suspected heroin concealed inside a secret chamber of a truck intercepted at the Ramnagar Bypass in Silchar.
In a post on social media platform X, Sarma said the contraband was packed in 150 soap cases and had an estimated market value of ₹13 crore.
During the operation, police also apprehended one suspected drug peddler believed to be linked to the consignment.
Praising the successful operation, the Chief Minister commended the Cachar Police for their decisive action against drug trafficking. He reiterated that the Assam government’s campaign against narcotics would continue with full force.
Police are further investigating the case to identify the source and intended destination of the seized drugs, as well as any wider network involved in the trafficking operation.
