The race for the 2026–29 term of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has gathered pace, with four candidates contesting for the top post and campaigning picking up across the state. Presidential candidate Likha Akash on Wednesday outlined his vision for reform, saying the student body must work in a more structured and inclusive manner to address the concerns of young people in Arunachal Pradesh. Speaking to media persons, Akash stressed the need for rotational representation within the apex students’ organisation. He said leadership should reflect all regions and communities of the state. According to him, a clear system of rotation would ensure equal opportunity, prevent concentration of power, and promote unity among different student groups.
Akash also promised to take up long-pending student issues in a time-bound manner. He said the union must function efficiently and respond quickly to grievances. He added that policy decisions should not remain on paper and must be implemented with clear follow-up. Unemployment, he said, remains one of the biggest challenges facing the youth of the state. He proposed a stronger focus on skill development, self-employment support and better career guidance. Student bodies, he said, should play a constructive role in helping create economic opportunities rather than limiting themselves to protests and memorandums.
Calling for transparency and accountability, Akash said decisions within AAPSU should be consultative and collective. The election has drawn four candidates into the fray and they are Meje Taku, Debia Muj, Byabang Hapo Dui and Likha Akash making it one of the most closely watched student leadership contests in recent years.
