President Droupadi Murmu conferred the prestigious Padma Shri Award for 2026 upon Techi Gubin, a retired chief architect and dedicated social worker from Arunachal Pradesh. The honor was presented during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 25, in the presence of Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Born in November 1964, Gubin graduated from the Chandigarh College of Architecture in 1988. He built a distinguished four-decade career within the Arunachal Pradesh Public Works Department, ultimately retiring as chief architect. His professional legacy includes serving as the director of housing and working on deputation with the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
Beyond his architectural contributions, Gubin is widely celebrated for his profound commitment to national security and indigenous heritage preservation. He famously organized the Seemant Darshan Yatra in 2010 and 2021, leading delegations to remote border villages near China, Myanmar, and Bhutan. His subsequent advocacy with central leadership directly resulted in enhanced manpower deployment at critical border posts.
Furthermore, Gubin has been a stalwart for tribal communities, serving in key leadership roles for the Arunachal Vikas Parishad and the Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram. As president of the Nyishi Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society, he has championed the protection of the Donyi-Polo faith. Notably, he also chaired the state-level Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra donation drive, positioning Arunachal Pradesh as the top donor among the Northeastern states.
Gubin’s multifaceted contributions—ranging from national defense advocacy to regional cinema—have previously earned him the ONE India Award (2022) and the India Leader Award (2023). This Padma Shri recognizes his lifetime of balancing impactful public service with the vital preservation of indigenous cultural identity.
