The Government College of Nursing in East Siang district resonated with the spirit of service this Monday as faculty and students gathered to celebrate International Nurses Day. The event served as a poignant tribute to the dedication, compassion, and invaluable contributions of nurses to the global healthcare system.

Addressing the gathering, Manjuli Komut Jamoh, CEO of Pasighat Smart City Development Corporation, emphasized the demanding nature of the profession. She urged students to lead with empathy, noting that a deep understanding of a patient’s pain is the cornerstone of superior medical care.

Echoing these sentiments, Dr. Basumati Apum celebrated the institution’s legacy as a premier center of learning. “Nursing is both a science and an art,” Dr. Apum remarked, advising students to balance medical advancements with the timeless virtues of love and care. She also highlighted a vital truth for frontline workers: the necessity of self-care. “One must love oneself first in order to care for others effectively,” she reminded the future healthcare leaders.

The solemnity of the day was marked by a sacred candle-lighting and oath-taking ceremony for second-semester students. Led by Vice Principal Aruna Chaudhuri, the students pledged their lives to the noble duties of the craft. College Principal Natal Jamoh underscored that nursing is far more than a career; it is a profound commitment to humanity.

Representing the student body, Gepi Lollen delivered an moving oration, reminding her peers that while perfection is elusive, a dedicated nurse is “priceless.” The celebration concluded as a powerful reminder that while technology evolves, the human touch remains the heart of healing.
