Amid intensifying student protests in Jharkhand, the state government has agreed to hold talks with the agitators. On Friday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren made it clear that discussions will be held directly with student representatives to resolve the students’ issues. Following this, the protesting students have formed a new six-member delegation to hold talks with the government.
Soren said on social media, “Student issues – with students. I have said before that I and our government are committed to moving forward towards practical and effective solutions to problems related to students and youth across Jharkhand and the entire country. The suggestions of my young colleagues in Ranchi as well as youth and students from various districts of the state are equally important.”
The Chief Minister added that opinions and suggestions from students across all districts of the state will be collected to determine the path to a solution. Soren also stated that suggestions from students, educationists, and policymakers from the state and the country will be gathered, a timeline will be set, and steps will be taken for necessary reforms and positive changes.
Meanwhile, the agitators have formed a new student delegation to hold talks with the government. The six-member team includes Piyush Kumar Singh, Ravindra Paswan, Rajesh Prasad, Ankit Kumar, Kartik Soren, and Anand Kumar. No journalists or lawyers have been included in the team. The list of the delegation will be submitted to the Jharkhand government soon.
On the other hand, during a march to the Assembly in Ranchi to protest alleged irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission exams, ink was thrown at Neha Bora, a leader of the All India Students’ Association. Following the incident, police detained one person.
Neha Bora said, “On July 20, tear gas shells were fired at us and pellet guns were used. We were not scared then, so how can this little ink harm us?”
Meanwhile, student leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who was on a hunger strike in Ranchi, was admitted to hospital after his health deteriorated. Following the doctors’ advice to be hospitalized, Mahto was taken to the hospital.
