A major administrative crisis has emerged at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) in Arunachal Pradesh following the resignation of Director Prof. Narendranath S amid growing controversy over alleged irregularities in staff recruitment.
The development comes shortly after the suspension of Registrar M.K. Camdir and Assistant Registrar Boge Kamduk over allegations of manipulation and irregularities in recruitment rules related to non-teaching staff appointments.
Sources said the suspensions were carried out following directives from the Ministry of Education, which is currently examining several academic and administrative matters at the institute. The developments have raised serious concerns regarding governance and leadership at one of the Northeast’s premier technical institutions.
The NERIST Research Scholars’ Association has expressed concern over the ongoing situation and called for stability within the institution to ensure that academic and research activities continue without disruption.
Association president John Yigam alleged that internal politics and corruption had adversely affected the institute’s functioning. He further claimed that the director was forced to resign due to pressure from certain groups within the campus.
However, Prof. Narendranath S denied allegations that his resignation was made under pressure. Speaking over the phone, he clarified that the suspension of the registrar and assistant registrar was carried out on the instructions of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The resignation of the director, coupled with the suspension of two senior administrative officials, has intensified scrutiny of NERIST’s administration. Questions are being raised over recruitment procedures, transparency, and institutional governance as authorities continue their investigation.
The outcome of the ongoing inquiry is expected to have significant implications for the future administration and functioning of the institute.
