The North East State Commissions for Protection of Child Rights (NE SCPCRs) have unanimously adopted the Tawang Declaration on Child Rights at the conclusion of a two-day convention held in Tawang on July 31 and August 1. The declaration marks a significant step towards strengthening regional cooperation among the Northeastern states to safeguard and promote the rights and welfare of children.
According to APSCPCR Chairperson Ratan Anya, the Tawang Declaration provides a comprehensive regional framework aimed at enhancing collaboration through coordinated policy initiatives, institutional convergence, the exchange of best practices and sustained inter-state cooperation. The initiative is expected to improve the implementation of child protection measures and ensure a more unified approach to addressing challenges affecting children across the region.
Anya said the declaration will be submitted to the concerned Union Ministries, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and the respective state governments for consideration and necessary action.
She further stated that the convention has laid the foundation for a new era of regional cooperation in child rights protection. It also reaffirmed the collective commitment of all Northeastern states to ensure that every child is safe, protected, educated, healthy, respected, heard and empowered.
The adoption of the Tawang Declaration is expected to strengthen child rights governance and encourage greater coordination among states in building a safer and more inclusive environment for children across the Northeast.
