For director Aditya Dhar, this year has been historic. In just 19 days after its debut, his most recent picture, Dhurandhar, broke box office records and solidified his status as one of 2025’s most successful directors. However, Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), the movie that completely transformed his life, came before Dhurandhar. He met actress Yami Gautam, who would eventually become his wife, on that shoot. Yami reflected on the beginning of her relationship with Aditya and the time they made the decision to be married in a recent interview with Humans of Bombay. After four years of dating, the pair got married in a small ceremony in the hills in 2021 and are now parents to a kid.
“Aditya and I are extremely similar when it comes to work,” Yami remarked, recalling her initial thoughts of Aditya. “We enjoy our jobs and return home to a typical family. We never felt that we had to go out because it was essential. Naturally, I got to know him while working on Uri, but it was during the movie’s promotion that we “talked-talked” as there were five of us and each question was shared with everyone. You are listening to every question and response, and then all of a sudden, one answer strikes you as being on the same wavelength.”
Yami discussed how their relationship developed, saying, “We started talking and became friends during promotions. I am not that kind of person, therefore the best thing was that there was no “I am going to propose to you” moment or anything sexy. All we knew was that we wanted to get married. Our relatives were incredibly supportive and delighted for us.” Yami claims that despite the COVID-19 outbreak, their wedding was low-key and private. Yami gave an example of Aditya’s benevolence while discussing his soft disposition. “The crown of green forest was handed to Aditya. I firmly believe that you will always be right about someone based on your initial impression of them. And my initial impression of Aditya was that he was a really pleasant man. “Everyone was complimenting him, including my hair stylist and makeup artist,” she remarked.
