Arunachal Pradesh joined the global celebration of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Sunday with widespread participation across the state under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The day was marked by mass yoga sessions involving students, security personnel, government officials and members of the public, highlighting the importance of wellness and balanced living.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu led the main state-level celebration at Jang in Tawang district, where he participated in a mass yoga session alongside schoolchildren, Indian Army personnel, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Border Roads Organisation (BRO) staff, public representatives and local residents. He described yoga as a unifying practice that promotes strength, discipline and overall well-being.

In a social media message, the Chief Minister termed yoga India’s timeless gift to humanity and said it offers a pathway to physical fitness, mental clarity and inner peace. He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has evolved into a global movement, inspiring millions to adopt healthier lifestyles. He also urged citizens to make yoga a part of their daily routine for a healthier and more harmonious society.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, along with Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, also participated in a yoga session and highlighted the role of yoga in promoting balance, resilience and inner peace.

Similar programmes were organised across the state, including at the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and Arunachal Pradesh University in Pasighat, as well as in Lower Siang district. These events witnessed active participation from officials, legislators, students and community members.

The celebrations across Arunachal Pradesh reinforced the message of yoga as a holistic practice for physical, mental and spiritual well-being, supporting the broader vision of healthy ageing and improved quality of life.
