Google has announced a significant expansion of its Quick Share feature, attempting to bridge the file-sharing gap between Android and iOS. Google has confirmed that it’s bringing file sharing between AirDrop-compatible devices to a wider range of Android partners later this year, including Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Honor. This will start with early support on Pixel and a few other devices. The integration lets users send photos, videos and documents directly to iPhones and Macs without the need for third-party apps or wired connections.
Google is rolling out a new cloud-based QR code sharing feature for devices that aren’t yet able to connect directly via AirDrop. Now, users can create a QR code from within Quick Share to instantly share content to iOS devices. The feature is rolling out to all Android phones and should be available widely in the next month. Google will also be integrating Quick Share right into popular third-party apps and WhatsApp is mentioned as the first big partner for this smooth sharing experience. These updates are part of a broader push to enhance cross-platform connectivity, which also includes a refreshed wireless migration process for users moving from iPhone to Android, supporting the transfer of passwords, messages, contacts, and even eSIM data.
