An Assam youth who had gone to Arunachal Pradesh in search of a livelihood lost his life in a horrific landslide. The accident occurred on Sunday night in the remote Walong area of Anjaw district, killing excavator operator Rupam Rabha.

The deceased, Rupam Rabha, was a resident of Bongagaon Burhigaon in Boko, Kamrup district. According to local sources, at around 8:30 PM on Sunday, he was operating an excavator while engaged in infrastructure construction work. At that time, a sudden landslide struck, burying the excavator under tons of mud and rocks. Rupam Rabha died on the spot.

Rupam had gone to Arunachal Pradesh some time ago in search of work. He was engaged in infrastructure construction in this border hill district, which frequently experiences landslides during the monsoon season.

After this untimely death, a pall of gloom has descended on his birthplace, Bongagaon Burhigaon. Rupam’s death has left his family and the entire area in mourning.

Notably, Rupam Rabha is survived by his wife and a four-year-old son. Many youths from Assam and the Northeast travel to work in the remote hilly areas of Arunachal Pradesh driven by the need for a livelihood. Especially during the monsoon, while working in these landslide-prone areas, they often face extreme danger to their lives.
