The Kheti Bachao Abhiyaan for Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh was launched in Thursday by In-charge Deputy Commissioner Rinchin Leta at the Conference Hall of the DC Office, Tawang.

The programme was attended by DAO Pema Dechhen, DHO In-charge DVO Dr. Tsering Drema, DFDO Tawang P.K. Thongdok and officials from the Agriculture Department, members of Panchayati Raj Institutions, CBOs, and Community Resource Persons (CRPs).

Addressing the gathering, DAO Pema Dechhen highlighted the adverse effects of excessive use of chemical fertilisers on soil health, leading to soil acidity and reduced productivity.

He also expressed concern over the increasing incidence of diseases linked to chemical residues in food crops and vegetables.

Emphasising sustainable agriculture, he encouraged farmers to adopt traditional farming practices such as the use of cow dung and green leaf manure.

He further stressed the need to address soil erosion and environmental degradation caused by chemical-intensive farming.

On the occasion, a book on Natural Farming, prepared by the Agriculture Department, Tawang under the National Mission on Natural Farming, was formally launched by In-charge DC, Rinchin Leta.

Community resourcepersons, who will serve as a vital link between government departments and farmers, were provided with mobile handsets. Soil health certificates were also distributed to farmers during the programme.

The initiative aims to promote natural farming practices, improve soil health, and encourage sustainable agriculture across Tawang district.
